Local band BOS hit the big time at The Renfrew Ferry
By Martin Blue
Lanarkshire band Bastards of Science were formed by Kris and Gavin in Coatbridge in late 2001 with the idea of creating a comedy metal band. In early 2002 Blue added his extreme drumming skills and the boys started playing covers of Minor Threat and Beastie Boys songs.
Along the next couple of years the boys shed a few members and picked up more along the way. With each new member new styles were added to the already eclectic mix of influences. Nik was the first of the current line up to join when the band realised that they needed a keyboard player to give them more range. Nik was told that if he could learn all the bands songs in two weeks he could be in the band. Although it was a tall order, Nik managed this and soon his place in the band was cemented.
Andy was the next to join on the long vacant position of 2nd guitar. Andy attended one of the band’s shows and was very impressed with the passion and fury of the performance. The band were also impressed with Andy’s endurance as he had to go up to casualty straight after to have his hernia popped back in. Arg!
Then came a side burned barbarian named Prof the Savage. With fire in his eyes and a brutal personality only rivaled by his kind nature, Prof was soon initiated into the band and taught the bass guitar. With his worldly air he was soon an unrivalled bass master. His peers would come to fear the name PROF THE SAVAGE.
When not playing in the band, Prof likes to free villages from the iron grip of the local authorities. So far, Easter house and Shettleston have been liberated, and it is only a matter of time before his sights are set squarely on Garrowhill. Prof is a bass legend, ask anyone!
B.O.S have played all over Glasgow including the 13th Note and Cathouse as well as local venues in Coatbridge and Airdrie such as Sneakys and Pharaohs.
In June of this year the band had the honour of supporting Austrian/American metal band Arnocorps. This was a big deal for the boys because not only was it the biggest gig they had ever played but they had also admired and been huge fans of Arnocorps for a long time, so to play and party with them was a dream come true. Needless to say B.O.S where a huge success and because of this they got themselves a headlining gig at Glasgow’s Renfrew Ferry, which the boys are delighted with! So we urge…..no order people to come and have your fancy tickled.
