He then moved to Stonelaw in 1957, where he settled with wife Netta.
From 1978 to 1979 he was Moderator of the Glasgow Presbytery and at the time was convener of the General Assembly’s committee on social responsibility. But his first love remained Stonelaw Parish and its close ties with families.
And he had a second spell in the position in December 1991, when the serving moderator took ill.
Rev William Wilson from Burnside Blairbeth Church will be conducting the funeral on Saturday, January 19. There will be a committal at 11am, folowed by a celebration of Tom’s life at noon at Burnside Blairbeth.
Rev Wilson said: “He was just a great encouragement, a very generous, kind and warm man, and he had such great stories to tell. He was well-regarded by everybody in the congregation.”
Rev Wilson was married to Netta for many years, and she passed away in 1990.
