Stonelaw pupil wins prize

A STONELAW High pupil has won South Lanarkshire’s very own version of the Apprentice.

And while Zoe Wilson hasn’t landed a job working for Alan Sugar, she did win an i-pad as a result of taking part in two weeks worth of challenges over the summer based on business growth and entrepreneurism.

The overall contest was loosely based around the hit BBC1 reality show.

Zoe said: “I’m so happy to have won, I really didn’t see it coming.

“I have really enjoyed these two weeks, it has probably been the best two weeks of my summer, meeting new people and gaining new skills, it has just been fantastic.”

Although she was delighted to win an i-pad, Zoe was adamant that wasn’t her main reason for taking part.

She said: “I never entered this knowing there was a prize, I just thought it would be great for gaining skills.

“When I did win I was absolutely overwhelmed because I have really, really enjoyed my time here and I hope the people I have enjoyed working with have enjoyed working with me.”

The fortnight saw those taking part split up into teams, then take part in various challenges.

These included a team-building exercise at Hamilton Outdoor Resource Base, three days at the Coca-Cola Enterprises Education Centre in East Kilbride and visits to various local small businesses.

Both teams then finished the fortnight by spending three days at South Lanarkshire Council.

They were also told to create business ideas from scratch, building up to each team pitching their concept on the final day.

The winner was the person with the most points from each challenge.

Other local pupils taking part were Nicola McFadden, Haider Ahmed and Lewis Gardner from Cathkin High School and Lauren Doherty, Kevin Maguire, Eilidh McEwan and Shannon Corrigan from Trinity High School.
