The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary where he is being treated for his injuries. Hospital staff describe his condition as “critical but stable”.
Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell said: “This appears to be a totally unprovoked attack on this young man as he was out with his friends.
“At this time, the only description we have of the suspect is that he is between 20 and 30 years of age and around 6ft in height and of slim build. He was wearing a grey hooded top.
“Police are currently carrying out inquiries in the area in an effort to gather more information.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have information that may assist police inquiries, to come forward as a matter of urgency.”

The attempted murder took place close to the infamous `Hole in the Wall’ which links Fernhill ot Castlemilk. One resident who witnessed the aftermath of last Wednesday’s attack said: “There were police everywhere.”
