Liberal Democrat councillor, Robert Brown, wants to see a change in the relationship with the rest of the UK.
He said: “The time has come for Scotland’s relationship with the rest of the United Kingdom to be put on a modernised, federal basis - the sort of structure we see in most normal countries like Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland or Spain.”
In a statement released this week, the local branch of the Conservative Party said: “Sadly, Alex Salmond wants us to turn our back on the rest of the UK and embrace his foggy vision of an independent Scotland.”
However, local SNP activists will be putting their case to end the Union to people in the local area.
Glasgow MSP, Bob Doris, said: “I want to ensure people in Rutherglen play their full part.
“Now that, at last, the distracting wrangling over the question, the timing, the franchise and so on has been put to rest, we can begin to discuss the ways in which independence can benefit people in Glasgow and Scotland.”
