New equipmnent for Quarryfield Park to be installed next month

New play equipment will be installed at Quarryfield Park in Cambuslang next month.

South Lanarkshire Council confirmed last week they had ordered new equipment after vandals struck again at the playpark.

The park, situated near Dukes Road, has been a target for anti-social youths in the past, and recently some items were set on fire.

The issue was discussed at a meeting of Cambuslang Community Council last Tuesday (December 18).

South Lanarkshire Council and Cambuslang West SNP councillor have now called on locals to be vigilant and call the police if they see suspicious youths hanging about the playpark.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Following further vandalism to the play equipment in the park which had already been replaced due to previous vandalism, new equipment is on order and we would anticipate that, following delivery, the new equipment will be in place in January.

“We need the public’s help to put a stop to mindlessvandalism and would askthat should anyone witness this taking place then they contact the Police immediately.”

Councillor McCall said: “Ground services are telling me they are waiting on materials but they should be up in January.

“Hopefully people will be observant and if they see anything untoward they will phone the police.

“Equipment like this is expensive to replace and we don’t want the children to miss out.”

The park was opened in 2006, but has been a target for vandals since.

In 2010, Cambuslang Police agreed to give it “special attention” and there have been complaints from parents of broken glass on the ground.

A member of Cambuslang Community Council said: “It is incomprehensible that the council spends money repairing the equipment at Quarryfield Park for it to be vandalised.”
