A CAMBUSLANG woman has helped raise over £1600 for three good causes.
Ann McLafferty, of Larch Close, ran a’70s/’80s fancy dress disco in St Columbkille's Church hall in Rutherglen.
And she was delighted with the total raised on the night, which will now go to two cancer charities and a third supporting people with multiple sclerosis.
Ann said: “The final figure raised for the charities was £1620, which was way beyond my expectations.
“The charities that have benefited from this are Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the MS Society Scotland and Cancer Research UK.
“These are charities which are very close to my heart as one of my friends has breast cancer and another one has MS.
“We had a good laugh on the night as everyone started arriving in their costumes. We had a Michael Jackson, a John Travolta, a Madonna and loads of neon tutus and big hair.”
Ann added: “I have loads of people to thank for helping me reach that figure, including my neighbour Morag Montgomery of Larch Close, who did the Scottish Run a few months ago and gave me her £200 sponsor money.
“I also have to thank everyone who donated money and raffle prizes including Equi's, Cambuslang, Stuart Smith, who donated a Rangers hospitality ticket which we auctioned for £25, my friend Rosemary Casey who helped with the food, my neighbours from my own street and surrounding streets who donated bottles of whisky and wine and my work colleagues who also gave me donations of money, gifts, whisky and wine.
“A special thanks goes to everyone who attended the event and went to the effort of dressing up and buying raffles on the night.”
