“There are all these comments on there from people saying she’s great, but I think she’s just bemused at all the attention.”
Now she’s looking to get ahead by taking part in the Teenstar competition, which is aimed at finding the best young singers.
She’ll now be singing in the regional round at the Old Fruitmarket on Saturday, April 6, with the possibility of a trip to Manchester for the national final if she wins through, and then London for the grand final if she wins through that.
Lesley added: “She can’t wait for it, she’s just trying to decide what to sing now, and she’s been taking keyboard lessons too.
“We saw Emeli Sande in Glasgow last year and Rebekah was really impressed, so she’s really loving her songs at the moment.
“And she’s always singing from a lot of musicals too.”
As well as her Teenstar appearance, Rebekah is also taking part in other talent contests, with shows in Greenock and Paisley taking place later this year.
And Lesley says that it’s Rebekah who loves taking part in the contests, and that there’s no pushy parenting taking place.
She said: “I’m just the roadie!
“She really enjoys taking part and it genuinely is her passion.
“If she doesn’t enjoy it anymore then we’ll stop; it’s entirely her decision.”
Praise for her The Girl In 14G performance has come from various YouTube commentators.
Emma Southworth wrote “Fabulous voice young lady!” while Nic Neufield commented “Your voice is amazing”.
One YouTube user even stated she was a “young Judy Garland.”
The video was filmed at a show in Largs last year, and saw Rebekah earn a standing ovation at the end.
