A Cambuslang man has been honoured for his long service to Masonic Lodge Cambuslang Royal Arch.

Members decided to make a presentation to William McNeil for his long-term membership, having first joined up nearly 56 years ago.

A deputation headed by the Lodge Master Craig Cochrane visited one of their oldest members at his home in Rosebank Tower.

Bill first joined on February 6, 1957and was a regular attender of the lodge until health problems stopped him from going along to his meetings a few years ago.

The Lodge was also represented in the deputation by Substitute Master Ian Barton, Almoner James Torrance, Past Master John McKillop, members Jim Low, George Russell and secretary Peter Phillips.

After the presentation of his jubilee certificate Bill shared some of his memories of his time as a member and some stories of Lodge members both past and present, and also of his friendship with Sir Alex Ferguson, whom he has known for many years and whom he has visited many times.

Bill’s wife Betty, his two sons, daughter and granddaughter attended the presentation.
