“If anyone’s out for a walk that way, and it’s a nice place to go, then the smell just hits you.
It was also claimed that SEPA have previously been contacted about the matter.
He added: “We have contacted SEPA in the past and nothing has been done about it. So it has gotten worse and the waste has piled up.”
A spokesman from SEPA confirmed the group are now looking into the matter and intend to take action soon.
The spokesperson said: “SEPA have received complaints regarding the dumping of waste at a small site near Loanend Road, South Lanarkshire, and investigations are ongoing to determine what waste activities are being carried out and to identify a potential solution to the issue.
An update will be given to those affected in due course, once an assessment of the activities has been completed.”
And the spokesperson denied claims they’d been asked to investigate the matter in the past.
He said: “That’s not to say that it couldn’t have come in under the radar at some point in the past.
“But, generally, any complaints that come in are logged straight away and followed up on.
“The investigation that’s ongoing at the moment though will result in some course of action being taken, and complainants will be advised of that but again that will only be discussed once it’s completed.”
