Burgh Primary's new head teacher

by Will Henshaw, Rutherglen Reformer

BURGH Primary School has a new head teacher.

Heather McAulay succeeds Elizabeth Munro and brings a wealth of experience to the Rutherglen school.

The 40-year-old, who lives in Hamilton, got in to teaching to “make a difference in children and help them to realise their full potential.” She added: “I did my SQH a few years ago, as I’ve always had an interest in it. I did an acting head teaching job just outside Biggar. I really liked it, so that made up my mind.”

Heather is concentrating on introducing herself to all the parents of the school. She said: “We had a coffee morning recently and that was a good way of getting to know parents in an informal setting.” Heather completed her teacher training studies at the Northern College of Education, in Aberdeen.

She held a variety of teaching positions in East Kilbride before her first senior post, as principal teacher for Millar Primary in Castlemilk.

She was there for two years before becoming deputy head of Auchinraith Primary, Blantyre.
