THE children of St Bride’s are doing their part to help others in the run-up to the festive season. The Cambuslang primary school held their annual harvest festival, where the kids gather food and donate it to the Talbot Association, who distribute it among the homeless in the streets of Glasgow. Every child in the school is involved in the celebration, which includes each class performing a song. Deputy head teacher Ann Marie McSorley said: “We are always delighted with the generosity of our parents in the school. “It is so important that our young people realise that there are others in society who are not as fortunate as us.” She added: “We’ve been doing it for about the last five or six years and it’s always been a success. “It was really good this year. We got a fantastic response from parents with regards to donating food and attending the harvest festival celebration. “The money that we collected was also sent to the Talbot Association. That money can go to provide food and any additional requirements. “We collected all tins, biscuits and dried food but we also get baking and fresh produce and then we collect it on the afternoon of the harvest festival. That way all the fresh produce can be put to use straight away.” Primary seven pupil Olivia Duncan was delighted to see all the children in the school working together. She said: “It was fantastic to see all the children in the school participating in the concert.” Youngster Ryan Clark said: “I really enjoyed the harvest festival. I think everyone enjoyed performing in front of an audience.” |
