Witnesses to tree crash sought

19:25, Mar 16 2013

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured when the car he was driving crashed into a tree.

The 38-year-old driver was trapped inside his vehicle after the incident on the unclassified road leading to Blackdykes Farm Cottages from the A198, near North Berwick at 9.30pm on Friday.

He suffered serious injuries after the red Mazda Premacy, left the road and hit a tree, police said.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the man from the car and a special medical response team also attended the scene, according to a spokeswoman for the fire service.

"He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a serious condition," said a spokesman for the police.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle being driven in the North Berwick area prior to the collision to contact them on 101.
