Two injured in estate 'disturbance'

11:25, Oct 22 2012

Two people have been taken to hospital after a "serious disturbance" which saw armed police being called.

Officers were called to an incident involving a number of people outside a property on the Mansfield estate in Tain in the Highlands at about 5.20pm on Sunday.

A 38-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man had been assaulted and were taken to Raigmore hospital in Inverness for treatment. Their injuries are described as serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.

Three men were later detained by police.

Northern Constabulary said armed officers were deployed following the initial incident and police negotiators were also involved.

A statement from the force said: "Police inquiries into the circumstances and events are ongoing. Police would like to stress that at no time were any members of the public in the neighbouring area at risk."
