Three climbers missing in avalanche

A major search operation is under way for three people missing after five climbers were caught up in a serious avalanche at Glencoe, in the Scottish Highlands.

Northern Constabulary and mountain rescue teams were alerted to the emergency on Bidean Nam Bain at about 2pm.

One woman, who is said to be seriously injured, has been taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William while a male climber has been found safe and well.

Glencoe mountain rescue team is continuing to look for three other members of the party, assisted by Lochaber mountain rescue team and police search and rescue dogs.

A party of six climbers caught up in an avalanche in Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands have now all been located but there is no immediate information on the condition of those who had been missing, said Northern Constabulary.
