Probe after lasers shone at planes

09:25, Feb 6 2013

Police are investigating incidents of laser lights being shone at landing aircraft.

Two pilots alerted air traffic control to the use of laser beams as they came in to land at Aberdeen Airport on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said: "We are making inquiries into two incidents which took place between 9pm and 9.30pm on Tuesday February 5, when it was reported to us by air traffic control in Aberdeen that pilots had reported laser lighting being used as they made their approach to land."

Last month a 13-year-old boy was charged by police in connection with reports of laser pens being shone at aircraft in Fife.

He was charged under the Air Navigation Act in relation to three incidents involving planes flying in and out of Edinburgh Airport last year.
