Hall's plant offers to be reviewed

17:25, Oct 12 2012

Two offers for a closure-threatened meat processing plant employing about 1,700 people will be reviewed over the weekend.

Food group Vion, which owns Hall's of Broxburn, said the offers were made before Friday's noon deadline passed.

An announcement about the future of the factory, which produces the world's biggest-selling haggis, is expected early next week.

A spokesman for Vion said on Friday: "We can confirm that we received two offers for the Hall's site prior to today's deadline. In addition, one note of interest in the site was withdrawn.

"At this stage, due to commercial confidentiality, we are unable to confirm their identity or the details of the bids.

"Our focus over the coming weekend will be on reviewing the offers which we have received in more detail.

"Our intention is to complete this process as quickly as possible with a view to making a formal announcement at the beginning of next week."

The deadline was extended by a few days to noon on Friday to give one of the bidders more time.

The Dutch owners had said last week, after the end of a 90-day consultation, that the plant would have to close.
