Girl, two, killed in road accident

19:25, Mar 5 2013

A two-year-old girl has died after being hit by a 4x4 vehicle, police said.

The toddler was knocked down on Hillside Road in Portlethen, Aberdeenshire.

She was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but Grampian Police said she was fatally injured in the collision.

Inspector Ian Kirkwood said: "Tragically, a young girl has lost her life as a result of the incident.

"Her parents have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time.

"It is too early to speculate on the cause of the collision and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or its immediate aftermath, and who has not yet spoken with police, to contact us as soon as possible."

The driver of the 4x4 was not injured in the incident.

The force can be contacted on 101.
