The majority of people diagnosed with epilepsy should be advised about the risk of sudden death, a sheriff has said.
The recommendation came after a fatal accident inquiry was held into the deaths of two teenagers who died in bed after suffering seizures. Sheriff Alistair Duff found both Erin Casey, 19, and Christina Ilia, 15, had died of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).
The inquiry, held between November 2010 and March 2011 at Dundee Sheriff Court, heard that neither teenager nor their families were warned of the risk because of the potential for "causing distress".
