Car driver dies after lorry crash

12:25, Jan 7 2013

A man has died and a woman is being treated in hospital for serious injuries after a collision between a car and lorry.

The crash happened at the Clovenstone roundabout on Edinburgh's Wester Hailes Road at about 1.30pm on Sunday.

A Honda CRX car was travelling south when it was involved in a collision with the lorry, which was negotiating the roundabout at the time, Lothian and Borders Police said.

The 22-year-old man driving the car died at the scene.

A 26-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to the city's Royal Infirmary, where she is being treated for serious injuries. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed for five hours while police carried out an investigation and officers are now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Sergeant Andy Gibb said: "We continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding this collision, which, tragically, resulted in the death of a young man.

"Road users who were in the area of the Clovenstone roundabout at around 1.30pm on Sunday are asked to come forward if they have information that can help us establish why this incident occurred.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information relevant to this investigation is also asked to contact police immediately."
