'Brazen' robbers targeted bookmaker

13:25, Sep 15 2012

Armed robbers stole from a bookmakers in a "brazen" Friday night raid, police said.

Two men, one carrying what appeared to be a firearm, took a three-figure sum after threatening staff at Betfred on Moss Street in Paisley.

Detective Inspector Julie Henry, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This was a very frightening experience for the staff within the store, who thankfully were not injured.

"This was a brazen act by the two men as the area in which the bookmakers is situated is a busy one, with lots of shops and restaurants. At the time of the incident Moss Street and the surrounding area was busy with people out and about on a Friday evening."

The suspects entered the shop just before 10pm. One man, who had the firearm, is in his mid to late 20s, 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a black hooded top and light coloured jeans. The second man, who carried a blade, is about the same age, 5ft 11in tall and was wearing black clothes with a hood up.

Two staff members, aged 29 and 40, were threatened but unhurt in the robbery.
