Armed men hunted after shop raid

21:25, Oct 7 2012

Police are hunting two men who held up a grocery shop with a knife and what is believed to be a gun.

Two members of staff at the Keystore in Ness Road, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, were threatened by the men, who made off on foot with over £100.

The 40-year-old male shop owner and a female worker, 51, were said to be "badly shaken" by the incident.

The suspects were described as being in their late teens or early 20s, both with a slim build and around 5ft 10in.

The first, who had what appeared to be a firearm, was wearing a blue, hooded jumper and had a grey and black tartan scarf over his face. He wore dark blue jeans and black trainers.

The other man, who had a knife, was wearing a dark grey or black hooded top and had a dark scarf over his face. He had on a white T-shirt, blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant Steven Adams, from Strathclyde Police, said: "I'd like to reassure the local community we are doing everything in our power to catch the men responsible. Officers are carrying out door-to-door inquiries and examining CCTV footage.

"This has been a very frightening experience for the members of staff within the shop.

"I would appeal to people to get in touch with us. Any information could prove vital in helping officers track these men down."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley police office on 0141 532 5900 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
