The commander of the Navy's only permanent presence in the South Atlantic hailed his ship's advanced capabilities.
Lieutenant Commander Al Wilson was speaking after a major military exercise in the Falkland Islands which saw his ship, HMS Clyde, quickly and safely deploy 90 troops to one of the remotest parts of the islands.
Lt Commander Wilson, who was brought up in Tighnabruaich on the west coast of Scotland, said: "HMS Clyde has been in the Falkland Islands since 2007 and replaced the ageing Castle class of ships that had been down here for a number of years."
