The Scottish Government is expected to announce plans to upgrade the A9 road to full dual carriageway status by 2025.
The road, from Perth to Inverness, has seen many fatal and serious accidents over the years.
The Scottish Government's forthcoming Infrastructure Investment Plan, due to be published next week, is understood to include a timescale to dual the A9 by 2025.
