The park was opened to the public in 1982 and is essentially a wooded glen extending some 5km along the banks of the Rotten Calder, from Flatt Bridge on the Strathhaven Road, North to the Hamilton expressway.
There are several attractive waterfalls and important geological features along the length of the glen. The main visitor attractions are centred around Torrance House and include:
The Children's Zoo - With its vast assortment of animals including, snakes, owls and guinea pigs this is zoo is well worth a visit. There are also monthly animal magic sessions to keep you guessing.
Nature Trails - Eight miles of nature trails make up this wooded glen, where rambler and nature lover alike can explore the area around the banks of the river Calder.
Ornamental Garden - Unusual plants and shrubs await you at the ornamental garden. And the keen gardeners among you can seek the advice of the horticultural staff as to how you can produce this effect in your own gardens at home.
Play Area - Hours of fun can be found for the children at the play area. With swing's, chutes and climbing frames making up a safe place for the kids to enjoy. While you take time out for a quick refreshment.
Events - Throughout the year there are a variety of events held at the park including a country fair and auto rally.
The visitor centre is open all year, with an audio visual room, history room, gallery, shop, café and the unique 'Hidden Worlds' wildlife experience.
