QUEEN’S Park president Garry Templeman this week divulged the club’s main aim this year – to challenge fiercely for a play-off place.
The Spiders’ are back in action on Saturday when division two rivals Raith travel to Hampden Park.
And under the watchful eyes of Bobby Dickson and David McCallum, since the departure of Billy Stark last week, the pair, along with Templeman, are confident their team can defeat the second top club and continue to climb the league ladder.
The club president told The Reformer: “Undoubtedly the main aim for Queen’s Park is to grab a play off place. That is definitely our target this season.
“We are currently sitting sixth in the league and it’s certainly still in the reckoning for us to finish in the top half of the division.
“With Bobby and David in place just now we are confident there will be no change to our form, our style of football and our attitude. They know the set up of the club well and will continue to do things as we’ve always done here. Our keen play and certainly our good passing game will be exactly the same – it’s this that gets us results and we’ll keep it going!”
Queen’s Park had a free weekend last Saturday with Scottish Cup action taking place elsewhere and Templeman believes the rest will have done the players good.
He added: “We always benefit from a rest period and I believe it will have done our players good. Raith were in action last night (Tuesday) and then face us on Saturday so they it may well be tough on them.
“We did, however, hold a bounce game on Monday night for our fringe players just to get them back to form and ready for the arrival of Raith as it’s been a hard season. Ground conditions are now starting to worsen and that can be tough on a player so we’ll do anything we can to keep their form and confidence up.”
Templeman also admitted there were no plans to bring in any new players during the January transfer window.
“Queen’s Park sign up our players at the start of any season therefore no transfer market really affects us at all. Of course if a player becomes available to us then we will look at the option but we have no immediate plans to bring in any new faces and are happy with our squad.”
