BILLY STARK signed off from Queen's Park with a fitting final flourish.
The Spiders came from behind to beat Alloa 2-1 thanks to second-half goals from Stevie Canning and Alan Trouten via the penalty spot.
In many ways the game summed up everything about the former Aberdeen and Celtic midfielder’s reign at Hampden, with fine attacking play and a good result.
He said: "It was a tremendous way to bow out as I was desperate to go out on a high.
"But, as I said all along, although it was an emotional day, the bottom line was getting three points.
"With David McCallum and Bobby Dickson due to take over initially, we will have continuity and two fine coaches taking things on.
"Over the last five or six games I feel we have not got what we deserved. Maybe there was an element of that our way this time.
"In the second half we gradually gained an element of control. Now we are exactly where we wanted to be at this stage - in mid-table.
"Hopefully there is a platform to push on from here. The players know they are more than capable of achieving that."
Queen's valuable three-point haul takes them to just five off the play-off place occupied by the fourth-placed Wasps.
Beating Alloa helped to make up for the January 2 disappointment, when the the Spiders blew a two-goal lead at Airdrie United - then ended up losing out to a last-minute strike.
An Alan Trouten penalty and Paul Cairney strike put the amateurs two up inside the first 17 minutes.
But the hosts levelled with second-half strikes before Steven McDougall broke Hampden hearts a minute from time.
Speaking after the game, he said: "We just don't seem to get a break against Airdrie. At two up early in the second half we had two great chances to bury them and how we paid for our profligacy.
"But, even by our standards, to lose the game a minute from time is tough to take.
"All of this makes me even more determined to get three points against Alloa."
Even Airdrie gaffer Kenny Black admitted his team had pulled off the great escape.
He said: "We could easily have been four down at the interval as we were totally outplayed by Queen's in the first 45.
"But our performance after the break was top drawer."
The Spiders have no game this weekend due to the Scottish Cup ties.
