Taking over where the ill-fated Blue Bar was on Mitchell Lane and right next to The Lighthouse gallery is Bar Soba, a fairly new addition to Glasgow's growing band of Asian fusion bar restaurants.

The interior of this self-christened "bar and noodle kitchen" is pretty minimalist, modern, stylish and funky and covers two floors.

The atmosphere is one of quiet relaxation and informality and the menu is a hybrid of Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese, Thai and Indonesian ingrediants with the focus pretty much on noodles. But does such exotic fare tantalise the taste buds?

Sadly the Yaki chicken ramen (noodles with char-grilled chicken garnished with pickled ginger and sesame seeds) that I had was really disappointing although I have to say that the sushi which comes in various shapes and forms faired a little better.

The express lunch at £5.25 is a popular option for shoppers or workers on the go who fancy a really speedy meal, while at night the music is very much geared towards a pre-club crowd.

All in all Bar Soba is an okay place to grab a quick bite to eat and a few drinks, but if the owners are really serious about jumping on this Asian fusion bandwagon they really ought to take a quick trip over to Cafe Mao, order up some nosh, and see how it's done properly.

Service was good and friendly, prices pretty reasonable and drinks choice good.
