You might not expect fun and excitement at the oldest working pub in Motherwell but that's certainly what you get at the Burns Tavern on Merry Street.

Dating back to 1865, the tavern is a pleasant and fun-filled local with crazy karaoke every Friday night from 9pm. No doubt it's that late because the customers will have worked up the Dutch courage by then with a few tipples!

The tavern is one of a chain of Bass inns that are spread across the UK but it still has its unique style and character. The bar staff are mainly women and collectively they are named 'the witches'.

The name was coined during friendly banter between customers and staff and it even goes as far as grading the staff with queen witch being the ultimate accolade.

The Burns Tavern, aptly named after a certain Robert Burns, also has a DJ on Saturday nights and an off sales so that you can take a piece, the best piece, of the tavern home.
