What's it like?

One of the most welcoming pubs in Lanarkshire where folks from all backgrounds and ages gather seven days a week. Weekends are a buzz with 70s/80s nights on Friday, karaoke (the talented staff all join in) on Saturday and cabaret sessions. There is even a plan to stage drag nights, kicking off next Sunday.

What about the customers?

You'll find yourself chatting to truckers, mums with kids, the local karaoke stars and ordinary folk who want to blether. Children accompanied by adults are welcome and get a complimentary lollipop. Big-hearted regulars and staff have staged numerous events for charity and raised large amounts for local causes.

Capo's What's the decor like?

Formerly called La Casa, it retains a Spanish flavour in parts, but the big, main bar is more like a typical American drive-in roadhouse. An autographed photo of Paul McCartney takes pride of place on the wall. He sent it to the pub to say thanks after they made a donation to his favourite charity. There is a big beer garden which is popular in the summer.

The staff?

The premises are owned by husband and wife Neil and Theresa McCondichie who are regularly on duty helping out the cheery staff. Theresa is a well-known face, having worked on the premises in earlier days as manageress. The bar is managed by Robert Aitken. They all try to outshine the other, come karaoke time and they all help to give the place its extra-special atmosphere.

The food?

The emphasis is squarely on home cooking with steak pie to die for (£3.95) and hearty soup with crusty bread (£1.50) among the favourites in the adjoining restaurant. A three-course lunch served from Monday to Friday is great value at £4.95.

Quiz Night?

Yes, on Thursdays.

Facts: Belhaven Best, £1.95; Tenent's Lager, £1.95; whisky and vodka (35ml), £1.35; wine (175ml), £2.25.
