Mums learn to coach children

Jun 5 2008

FREE Scottish FA Coach Education Course is being run for mums.

The Early Touches Course is Level 1 standard for coaches working with 5- to 12-year-old children.

Mums On The Ball is a campaign being run by McDonald’s, with the support of the Scottish Football Association, to encourage and enable more mums to become qualified grassroots coaches.

McDonald’s, along with the SFA and North Lanarkshire Council, want to encourage more mums to become coaches because they possess natural talents that are the perfect starting point for any good grassroots coach.

Through raising children, mums have the experience and ability to enthuse and inspire children and offer an encouraging approach and psychological support to maximize the potential in young players.

This course has been put on specifically for mums who want to get involved in coaching. The course will take place on Saturday, June 14, at St Andrew's High School, Coatbridge, from 12.45pm to 4.45pm, and will be delivered by SFA football development officer Shelley Kerr.

At the end of the course, the mums will then be certified football coaches and will receive a certificate of attendance and an Early Touches DVD and booklet.

Application forms for the course can be found at www.footballcentral.org.uk.

Anyone wishing further information on the Early Touches course can contact SFA Football Development Department, Sport & Arts Department, East Hagmill Industrial Estate, Unit 6, 3c Hagmill Crescent, Coatbridge ML5 4NS, or can call them at 01236 638641.
