First Choice, which occupied a prime slot in Graham Street, stopped trading last weekend. Now the nearest First Choice branch to the town is in Main Street, Coatbridge. A spokeswoman for the firm said: “We closed our Airdrie branch last week due to a fall in business. “But customers who booked holidays there have nothing to worry about. “Their bookings will now be dealt with in our Coatbridge branch.” The closure of the First Choice branch took shoppers by surprise. From Monday morning they were greeted by a huge poster on the front door declaring “this shop is now closed”. Chairs could be seen piled up, ready to be moved for storage at the Coatbridge branch. And computer monitors and keyboards had been left behind as well as racks full of brochures. The closure of First Choice follows the recent departure of sports retailer JJB from Hallcraig Street. |
