A COATBRIDGE woman has gone the extra mile for charity. Throughout the UK, women everywhere have been donning their training shoes and getting set to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2008. And Tesco employee Margaret Clark has received an award for her commitment to the charity, going the extra mile to raise funds with colleagues and customers at the Coatbridge store. In 2007, Margaret was diagnosed with a brain tumour and relied on some of the help made available from Cancer Research UK. Although she is still in recovery and unable to participate in the race this year, Margaret has still encouraged her friends to enter Race for Life and will be enthusiastically cheering them on at the finish line. This year 750,000 women will participate and raise more than £50million to fund life-saving work. There is still time for ladies in Airdrie and Coatbridge to join more than 13,200 other women by participating in the event on Sunday, June 8, at 9.30am, at Glasgow Green. The 5km course will take the ladies around Glasgow Green and the surrounding areas. Race for Life are hoping to see 13,200 women take part to help smash the local fund-raising target of £950,000. David Reid, chairman of Tesco, presented Margaret — who has worked for the supermarket chain for 15 years — with a token of appreciation for her exceptional effort in championing the cause in the Coatbridge store. Angus Bell, Scottish marketing manager, said: “Margaret is the driving force for Race for Life in our Coatbridge store and has shown extraordinary spirit, going the extra mile to ensure vital funds are raised to help beat cancer faster by rousing support of staff and customers in her store.” |
